Summer Newsletter 2011
from Schrock's Amish Farm and Village
in Berlin, Ohio
It seems like we had rain all spring and suddenly the weather got hot and summer is here! I enjoy the cooler days of spring and fall so having the heat this early is a bit much for me. I do know though that the days go by much to fast, so like the rest of you I need to slow down and take time to enjoy each day as it comes.
School is out and graduation parties are just behind us, now it's time to spend time with our families at the city pools, family reunions and vacations. We are always so thankful for all the visitors that come to Amish country for a vacation. Many folks come by for a day but there are also many that come for several days or even camp in the area for several weeks. There is a nice variety of things to do in the area and they are all family friendly. You don't have to worry what your children will be exposed to when you visit Ohio's Amish Country.
If you enjoy a good shopping trip then you will enjoy the shops at the farm village. Each shop is unique and has it's on theme. The Leather Shop is all about leather, western wear, boots, belts and western home decor. The Antique Mall is all antiques, Ms Gadgets is filled with kitchen gadgets, fresh fudge, coffee drinks and more. Tis the Season is filled to over flowing with Christmas items. So take time to stop in each shop and experience something different. If you're traveling with friends or family who are not into the "shopping thing" they can take a train ride or a buggy ride. If they want they can tour an Amish home and learn about the people who live here. There is a lot of seating around the farm for those who just want to "sit a spell" and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
We have remodeled the Quilt Barn this spring and with the weather we had through April and May it wasn't easy getting the job done. The original buildings here at the farm are well over a hundred years old and in constant need of repair so we are excited to finally have this project nearly completed. We hope you like our new look.
There are numerous events that take place throughout the summer and fall so take time to check out the event listings on the web site and make plans to join us for some of these special days. All of our events are created with families in mind. I had four children at home and I remember well what it was like trying to find something affordable to do with a family of 6. At our events each family can choose how much they want to spend. For an example at our Apple Fest we offer pumpkin painting for kids for a small fee, we have face painting and if you choose one of the simple designs they are free or you can pay for a more creative design, there are a number of these types of things offered at our events so you can afford to come and bring the family.
The Farm Diner has undergone some minor changes and you are invited to sit down to a great lunch of sandwiches, salads, wraps, pizza or more. Top off your lunch with a hand dipped ice cream cone from Velvet Ice Cream, yummy! We have also added a kids menu and gourmet cheeseburgers.
Before the summer fades away, stop by Schrock's Amish Farm and Village located just one mile east of Berlin on State Route 39 and create some memories of your own.
